One eye can not reach normal visual acuity even with glasses or contact lenses due to a vision development problem called lazy eye, medically known as amblyopia. The primary cause of visual impairment in children, it usually manifests in early life.
Principal Reasons for Lazy Eye:
- The brain disregards information from the crossed or wandering eye in cases of strabismus (misaligned eyes).
- Significant variations in eye prescription, such as one eye having significantly more nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, are known as refractive errors.
- Lack of Physical vision impairment, such as a congenital cataract or drooping eyelid, is known as amblyopia.
Common Signs and Symptoms:
- Inadequate depth perception, or trouble estimating distances.
- Closing one eye or squinting.
- Tilting the head to one eye.
- One eye has blurry vision, even after correction.
- Eyes that do not move in unison (related to strabismus).
- Failing an eyesight test for children.
