A laser is used to reshape the cornea in the popular refractive eye surgery known as LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) in order to correct eyesight. As a result, less or no contact lenses and glasses are required.
Diseases and Symptoms LASIK Cosmetic Procedures
LASIK is typically used to correct:
- The inability to see far objects clearly is known as myopia, or nearsightedness.
- A symptom of hyperopia, sometimes referred to as farsightedness, is the inability to focus on close objects.
- Astigmatism: Vision impairment caused by a corneal curvature.
- With LASIK, presbyopia, or age-related farsightedness, is less curable.
Who isn't a suitable match?
- Dry eyes
- Abnormalities or thinness of the cornea (may need PRK instead)
- Unstable vision prescriptions (should last for a year or more)
- Autoimmune diseases (like rheumatoid arthritis)
- Throughout pregnancy and nursing, hormones can change vision.
